Based on the real-life story of Armstadt's father's time with the US State Department in Cold War Yugoslavia in the early to mid-1950s, this spy thriller and historical fiction novel is expected in 2021.
Using her father's State Dept. dossiers, numerous letters detailing both her mother and father's days in Yugoslavia, Austria and Germany in post-WWII Europe, and family photos -- as well as extensively researched declassified documents from the Central Intelligence Agency -- Armstadt takes readers on a thrilling insider's look at the secret life of diplomats, and the price their families often pay for their dedication.
This multi-generational novel about three Jewish families' lives that ultimately intertwine -- bringing together generations of intrigue, passion and secrets -- is being painstakingly researched for authenticity and historical accuracy.
Protagonist Delsey Markoff -- a New York City writer -- tries to untangle the secrets of her deceased father's mysterious past, and in doing so, finds out way more than she bargained for, including startling truths about her mother's early death from cancer and her former British fiance's role with MI6 after the war.
At the same time, a lifetime of failed relationships comes to a head with Delsey's best friend since her teens, anesthesiologist Dr. Burke Braverman, who's carried a hidden passion for Delsey for decades.
